Billabong Pro Teen Raglan New Zealand

In March Mitch Sheils, Bijou Busse, Kane Dickson and Damo traveled to the North Islands wave Mecca of Raglan to compete in the Billabong Proteen series.
It was Bijou and Mitches first international Competition and Damo was coach and chaperone. “It was the first time any of us have been to NZ and we loved it”.
“We drove down from Auckland and arrived in Raglan at night, we were frothing so hard that in the moonlight we tried to figure out where the waves broke. So first thing in the morning we hit it, sick 3-5 foot reeling lefts, Bijou thought she had died and gone to heaven. They practiced the two days before the comp and just had a ball, that place is so mechanical”.
Mitch blitzed his first heat, and was so unlucky to just get knocked out in the last minute after leading the heat from the outset. Bijou totally ripped her waves, but an unlucky slip and missing a set wave forced her early exit, she was unlucky not to receive the extra ½ a point to get thought to the next round. Kane also was unlucky in his heat the swell had picked up to 6-8 foot and conditions became really tricky, he also narrowly missed out from progressing to the next round.
“The waves we scored in the next 3 days where some of the best wave’s ive had outside of Indo”. The crew also surfed great beach breaks down the coast where the finals were held.

“Raglan is such a Beautiful place with that amazing long point break, the people are really friendly and we are all keen to attack that competition again next year, hopefully with some more success. Damo.
